Muizenberg is a right-handed beach break on the coast of Cape Town, South Africa. On the right day, the ideal swell window runs from SW–W (220–260°); groundswell with periods around 6–12s gives it the most shape; the wave is comfortably workable up to roughly 6 ft on the face. Best winds are SE or S, with N or E still rideable. It is relatively forgiving across the tide and can be ridden through most of the cycle. The sweet spot in our data sits between roughly 0.1 m and 1.5 m of tide height. It is one of the more consistent waves in the region, producing rideable days across much of the season. Expect cold water that demands a thick wetsuit, boots, and a hood when winter rolls in. Expect a busy lineup, particularly during the prime season. Logistically, it is about 30 minutes from CPT airport. It is a friendly, forgiving wave on small days and a popular spot for surf schools and progressing surfers. Board-wise, locals lean on longboard + foamie + soft-top.
The best window is typically Mar–Oct, when swells from SW–W (220–260°) are most consistent.
In our data the spot is workable up to roughly 6 ft on the face on the right swell and wind, beyond which it usually becomes unmanageable or closes out.
It can be friendly on small days, but the lineup is usually competitive and not the best fit for first-timers.
